Hypnosis for Health, Pain & Nervous Habits
Stress doesn’t stay in your head. It shows up as headaches, a stomach that won’t settle, a jaw you clench all night, sleep that never quite arrives, or a habit your hands carry out before you notice. Nicol Merline holds a specialty certification in complementary medical hypnotherapy and works with these mind-body patterns directly.

Complementary care
Alongside your medical care, not instead of it
Complementary medical hypnotherapy works with the care you already receive. Hypnosis does not diagnose conditions or replace treatment from your physician, dentist, or therapist — have symptoms evaluated medically first, and keep your providers in the loop. What hypnosis adds is work on the stress response, the tension, and the learned reactions that sit on top of a physical issue and often make it worse.
Pain & tension
Pain management & tension relief
Pain is processed in the mind as well as the body, which is why the same injury can feel very different on a calm day than on a stressful one. Sessions work on your response to discomfort — reducing the guarding, bracing, and anticipation that amplify it — and are commonly used for:
- Tension headaches and migraines
- Ongoing pain and pain flare-ups
- Jaw clenching and teeth grinding (bruxism)
- Muscle tension and stress-held posture
- Discomfort before and after surgery
Stress-related concerns
When stress shows up in the body
- Nervous stomach and IBS
- Skin rashes and hives
- Trouble falling or staying asleep
- Blood pressure and stress reactivity
- Shortness of breath from anxiety
Habits & compulsions
Nervous habits you can’t seem to stop
Body-focused habits are frustrating precisely because willpower isn’t the issue — the behavior is automatic, usually tied to stress, boredom, or concentration, and it happens before you catch yourself. Hypnosis addresses the trigger and the pattern rather than asking you to white-knuckle it.
- Nail biting and picking
- Skin picking (excoriation)
- Hair pulling (trichotillomania)
- Teeth grinding and clenching
- Nervous tics and fidgeting
- Anger and reactivity
- Gambling, alcohol, and other compulsions
Medical & dental support
Procedures, surgery prep & hypno-birthing
Fear of needles, injections, and blood draws keeps people from care they need — and dental anxiety does the same. Sessions reduce that reaction so appointments become manageable rather than something to postpone.
MTU Hypnosis also supports pre- and post-surgery jitters and offers hypno-birthing preparation, helping you go into the experience relaxed and recover in a calmer state.
